With the recent news reports about specific Toyota model recalls, here's some good news: the 4Runner isn’t one of them. In fact, the all-new 4Runner is better than ever.
When the 4Runner was launched in 1984 it was a revolutionary vehicle that combined the versatility and go-anywhere capability of four-wheel-drive with the comfort and utility of a passenger car. Twenty-five years later, the fifth- generation 4Runner is even more rugged and athletic, packed with more power, and gets better mileage. A completely redesigned interior and unique cargo area make the newest 4Runner smarter, more comfortable, and even more versatile than before.
More rugged than the Highlander and more versatile than the FJ Cruiser, the 4Runner combines toughness and durability with a multi-use design. Taller, wider and longer, it’s offered in three models: the top-of-the-line Limited, the well-equipped SR5, and the Trail for maximum off-road capability.
The 2010 4Runner is powered by a new 4.0-liter V6, which generates 270 horsepower and 278 ft. lb. of torque. Through advanced engine management, the new engine offers more power while improving efficiency. A 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine is available on the 4x2 SR5 model. Mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, the 2.7 delivers 18 city/23 highway mpg.
Safety is enhanced with the addition of standard driver and front-passenger knee airbags, bringing the total of standard airbag systems to eight. The 4Runner Limited comes with Safety Connect, Toyota’s new telematics service that provides Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location, Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), and Roadside Assistance.
Comfort and convenience is enhanced with increased interior space, a 40/20/40 split reclining and fold-flat second-row seat. A 50/50-split third-row that folds flat in the floor is available on the SR5 and Limited.
Also new is a sliding rear cargo deck that supports up to 440 pounds, an ideal feature for easier cargo hauling—or setting up a tailgate party. And the “Party Mode” button that raises the audio system’s bass and transfers equalization to the rear of the vehicle enhances tailgating fun.
